IATA has suspended Astra Airlines, Greece (updated)

Greek airline Astra has cancelled several flights this weekend due to serious financial problems, prompting questions about its future. Problems also occur in the operation of the company’s website, as reports suggest that flights from Athens to Kastoria can’t be booked.

Update November 14th / IATA has suspended Astra Airlines, Greece with immediate effect, in accordance with the provisions in Resolution 850 Attachment F. The below notification (DE / EN) has been sent by IATA to all BSP participants in Germany on November 14th.

November 10th / On Saturday, flights from Ikaria and Limnos to Thessaloniki and the Thessaloniki – Heraklion route were cancelled. The passengers of these flights were informed by text messages, and several repeatedly tried to reach the company’s sales department without success.

On Sunday morning, flights from Thessaloniki to Kos were cancelled and the customers were informed in a written message that the flight was cancelled for business reasons. Sources say the airline is seeking liquidity from a strategic investor until Wednesday.
