This milestone marks the first time that a non-stop flight from Norway to Australia has taken place and highlights the efficiency of the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner and the operational excellence of the Norse Atlantic charter team.
Taking off at 06:30 AM on Saturday 3rd August from Oslo Gardermoen Airport and landing at Darwin International Airport 06:00 AM on Sunday 4th August, the non-stop flight covered approximately 14,730 kilometres with a flight time of 16.5 hours, showcasing the long-range performance and efficiency of the Boeing 787-9.
“Completing this charter flight between Norway and Darwin, a first in aviation, is a testament to our commitment to consistently delivering excellent service to our charter clients. The Boeing 787-900 Dreamliner is the perfect aircraft for ultra long distance flying and we are proud to demonstrate its capabilities on this historic route,” said Mette Birkedahl, Director Charter and ACMI Norse Atlantic Airways.
Last year, Norse Atlantic Airways was globally lauded for being the first airline to land a Boeing 787 Dreamliner on a ‘blue ice runway’, 3,000 meters long and 60 meters wide, at Troll Airfield Antarctica, on behalf of the Norwegian Polar Institute.
