A committee of representatives from Ivalo Airport and the Finnish airport operator Finavia ensured a warm welcome and plenty of Finnish chocolate for the Austrian Airlines passengers around 234 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle.

Ivalo – the largest town in northern Lapland with just over 3,000 inhabitants – is the northernmost airport in Finland and the ideal starting point for cross-country skiing fans, as the Inari holiday region has several hundred kilometres of well-groomed cross-country ski trails. Ski hiking, sledging and aurora snowmobile safaris are also activities that Ivalo is known for. During the day, visitors can observe reindeer in their natural environment, while at night the Northern Lights light up the sky.
