At the beginning of August 2025, the first 3 aircraft were named after the Baltic capitals, each featuring its national flag colours on the livery. Since then, the airline has named nearly 30 aircraft after cities across the region: 10 Latvian, 9 Estonian, and 9 Lithuanian.

Elīna Prāve, VP Marketing at airBaltic: “Already 28 of airBaltic Airbus A220-300 planes now proudly carry the names of the Baltic cities! It is a way to highlight each town and encourage travellers to discover their unique character. Each aircraft is also a flying ambassador, carrying the names of these cities across our extensive network of more than 80 destinations in Europe and beyond.”
The naming contest, held last year to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the Baltic Way, invited the public to vote for their most beloved cities across Latvia, Estonia, and Lithuania. A total of over one million votes were cast during the voting period from August 5 to August 22, resulting in a shortlist of 48 cities – 16 from each Baltic country – reflecting the airline’s fleet size at the time of the contest.
This initiative celebrates the unity and cultural heritage of the Baltic States. This symbolic meaning also strengthens the recognition of the Baltic region worldwide and encourages tourism, making these cities attractive to both local and international travellers.
The remaining 20 selected Baltic cities will be assigned to the aircraft gradually and in random order. More information about the competition and its results: https://vote.airbaltic.com/
