Next summer, American will add 3 new destinations to its network from Philadelphia (PHL): Porto, Portugal (OPO); Reykjavik, Iceland (KEF); and Vienna (VIE). American will serve Porto and Vienna for the first time ever, while offering flights to Reykjavik for the first time since 2019.

American will be the only U.S. airline serving VIE, expanding the airline’s Central European network that grew in 2026 to also include Prague (PRG) and Budapest, Hungary (BUD). Vienna is an iconic city with spectacular palaces, museums, classical music experiences and outdoor activities, making it a must-visit destination. American will offer an extended season between PHL and VIE, flying through early January 2028, making it easier than ever to visit magical European Christmas markets.

Earlier this year, American announced intentions to serve OPO in 2027. With the nearby Douro Valley’s stunning natural scenes complementing beautiful blue-and-white azulejos tiles and the unique charm of Porto, customers can start planning that long-awaited Portuguese getaway.

In addition to new destinations, American will also expand its network with more new routes to Europe. From New York (JFK), customers will have nonstop access to Amsterdam (AMS) and Nice, France (NCE).

Amsterdam is a time-tested vacation destination in Europe. American’s service from JFK will complement existing seasonal flights to AMS from Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) and year-round flights from PHL. Known for more than 60 miles of canals, world-class museums and vibrant ambiance, it is no surprise the city is one of the most popular summer destinations. Plus, no trip to Amsterdam is complete without enjoying delectable stroopwafels and truffle fries.

For travelers looking for European beaches, American will connect the Big Apple with the French Riviera via NCE in 2027. This magnificent region has enthralled travelers with its sparkling blue waters, charming cities and nearby lavender fields.

Barcelona (BCN) is one of the most sought-after destinations in Spain, and American will connect BCN with a 6th gateway in the U.S. with service to Charlotte, North Carolina (CLT), next year. With more service to BCN than any other U.S. airline, American offers the most convenient nationwide access for travelers looking to visit the city known for beautiful architecture and its championship-winning soccer club.

In response to growing customer interest for cherry blossom season in Japan, American will launch service between Chicago (ORD) and Tokyo (NRT) on March 19. In addition to providing nonstop access to one of the world’s most vibrant cities, customers can connect beyond to destinations in East and Southeast Asia in partnership with Japan Airlines.

Next year, the airline will also extend the season on two returning routes. Service from CLT to Paris (CDG) and Miami (MIA) to Milan (MXP) will both launch on March 4, 2027. Spring break travel to Europe has grown in popularity, and American is responding to increased interest in these key markets.

London is one of the most important cities for premium travelers, and American is proud to serve as the largest U.S. airline in the market. In 2027, the airline will increase its presence in London with the reintroduction of a 4th daily flight between JFK and LHR. In partnership with British Airways, travelers will have up to 14 daily flights between New York City and London, the most of any airline partnership.

EVA Air will begin a new non-stop service from Taipei to Delhi on December 1st, with bookings now open on EVA Air’s website or travel agencies.

Operating 5 flights per week with Airbus A330-300 aircraft, the new route will make EVA Air the only Taiwan-based airline offering nonstop passenger flights to India.

The new service also provides a more convenient alternative for travelers who currently connect through other Asian gateways. Through EVA Air’s partnership with Star Alliance member Air India, passengers can conveniently connect beyond Delhi to major Indian cities. At the same time, Indian travelers can connect via Taipei to EVA Air’s North American network, supporting growing demand from business travelers, students, researchers, and visiting friends and relatives.

Eligible Indian nationals traveling to the United States or Canada may also benefit from Taiwan’s conditional visa-waiver transit program, making short stopovers in Taiwan easier while supporting inbound tourism.

United has announced the largest international network expansion in its history with 10 new international cities and 3 new routes across Europe and Asia, and debuted the Airbus A321XLR at an event at Newark Liberty International Airport.

Follow Aeronews on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and TikTok

Starting in March 2027, the airline will fly to 10 new international cities – including 8 no other U.S. airline serves – across Europe and Asia. Tickets are available for sale on united.com and in the United app.

Beyond the 10 new cities, United is adding new flights from Los Angeles to Osaka, Japan; Washington, D.C. to Milan, Italy; Denver to Paris; and will restart service from San Francisco to Tel Aviv, Israel. The airline will serve more destinations in Japan, Spain, Portugal, Italy and France than any other U.S. carrier.

Expanding global reach

United is also adding new international routes to destinations it already serves from three of its U.S. hubs spanning coast to coast.

From Los Angeles, United will add new daily service to Osaka, Japan, becoming the only airline to serve Osaka from two continental U.S. cities. The route will complement the airline’s existing service from San Francisco and Guam. The new route is scheduled to begin March 27.

From Washington, D.C., United will add new three times weekly nonstop service to Milan on May 28, becoming the only airline to connect the nation’s capital to Milan nonstop. United will also serve more destinations in Italy nonstop from the U.S. than any other airline.

From Denver, United will add new daily nonstop service to Paris beginning on May 27. The new route will complement existing service from Newark/New York, Washington Dulles, Chicago and San Francisco.

United is also restarting service from San Francisco to Tel Aviv on March 28. The three times weekly service from San Francisco to Tel Aviv will offer the most business class seats between the two cities of any airline.

In addition, United will be bringing back the new destinations it added in summer 2026 for summer 2027 with flights from Newark/New York to Split, Croatia; Bari, Italy; Glasgow, Scotland; and Santiago de Compostela, Spain.

Airbus A321XLR

United’s Airbus A321XLR will support United’s international growth in summer 2027 with service to new destinations in Ibiza, Luxembourg, Marseille, Toulouse and Valencia.

When customers step onboard United’s Airbus A321XLR, they will find a new United Polaris suite with a privacy door, free Starlink Wi-Fi for MileagePlus members, 4K OLED screens with Bluetooth connectivity, a snack bar in United Economy and the new Economy Plus seats with extra elbow room and access to a shared table across an open middle seat.

The aircraft also offers 32 premium seats, including 20 United Polaris suites and 12 United Premium Plus seats – 16 more premium seats than the Boeing 757-200.

The A321XLR is scheduled to start flying select domestic routes in September and will transition to international service on December 1st, starting with flights from Dulles International Airport in Washington, D.C. to Amsterdam and Dublin. Tickets for the first international flights will go on sale on August 27.

After the leisure airline announced additional flights, longer seasons, and increased capacity for the 2026/27 winter schedule in July, further expansions are now being announced.

Follow Aeronews on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and TikTok

In October, Edelweiss is increasing capacity on several popular holiday routes. On Fridays and Sundays from October to mid-November, Edelweiss will deploy the significantly larger Airbus A340 to Gran Canaria. This will provide considerably more seats on these flights. An Airbus A340 will also be used on Monday flights to Tenerife and Saturday flights to Rhodes in October. Rhodes will also have an additional flight on October 30th.

Significantly more capacity is also available for travel to Crete: Saturday flights to Heraklion will be operated with the larger Airbus A350 instead of an Airbus A320. Furthermore, the destination will be served until the beginning of December.

Edelweiss will expand its service to Mallorca in October with several additional flights and larger aircraft. This creates extra travel options for those who want to extend their summer under the southern sun.

Christmas and New Year

Edelweiss is further expanding its long-haul flight offerings for the particularly popular travel period around Christmas and New Year’s. From December 14, 2026, to January 11, 2027, Cape Town will have an additional flight every Monday. This provides guests with more travel options to South Africa over the holiday season.

There are also additional travel options to popular island destinations in the Indian Ocean. Malé in the Maldives will be served every Sunday from December 20, 2026, to January 10, 2027. Edelweiss will offer additional flights to the Seychelles and Mauritius every Friday from December 18, 2026, to January 8, 2027. This creates more opportunities to spend the holidays on white sandy beaches under the tropical sun.

Finnish Lapland

During the winter school holidays, Edelweiss is further expanding its already significantly enhanced service to Finnish Lapland. From February 5th to March 5th, 2027, Kittilä will have an additional flight every Friday. From February 2nd to March 2nd, 2027, a new connection to Rovaniemi will also be offered on Tuesdays.

Kittilä will be offered three times weekly between December 10 and March 27. Kemi is offered up to twice weekly in the schedule between December 25 and March 10, Evenes is executed once weekly in February and March.

Demand in the aviation industry is highly seasonal, with the summer months as peak season. Brussels Airlines has been working on tackling this seasonality with a variety of measures, such as student cabin crew members to increase productivity during the peak season, but also by adding attractive winter destinations.

Since winter 2024, Brussels Airlines offers four destinations in the Canary Islands during winter, with the addition of Fuerteventura. Also, Funchal in Madeira was added to the schedule as a destination with year-round mild temperatures.
As of this year, the Nordics are the newest addition to the winter timetable in order to offer an attractive leisure network, year-round.

Alaska’s new service to Athens, flight AS196, pays homage to Greece’s capital as the birthplace of the modern Olympic Games in 1896. New service to Paris, flight AS136, is a nod to the city’s renowned cultural scene, home to 136 museums.

Flights to Athens and Paris will be operated with Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner. Guests seated in international Business Class lie-flat Suites can enjoy multi-course dining curated by Alaska’s award-winning food and beverage team and premium travel amenities in every cabin from West Coast-based brands Filson and Salt & Stone. Atmos Rewards members will also enjoy complimentary ultra-fast Starlink Wi‑Fi, thanks to T‑Mobile, as installation continues to roll out across the Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines fleet through 2027.

These new routes join Alaska’s growing intercontinental lineup from Seattle, which now includes non-stop service to Iceland, London, Rome, Seoul and Tokyo, with plans to add at least 5 more intercontinental destinations by 2030 and additional Dreamliners.

On August 1st, STARLUX launched flights to Prague, its first European destination. Currently, the route is operated with A350-900 3 times weekly, increasing to 4 weekly from October.

From September 1st, the A350-900 will be replaced by the larger Airbus A350-1000, offering seating for 350 passengers across 4 cabin classes. As a result, Prague will welcome both the AIRSORAYAMA Silver and AIRSORAYAMA Gold aircraft, featuring the distinctive special livery created by internationally acclaimed Japanese artist Hajime Sorayama.

Alongside Tokyo and Phoenix, Prague will become one of only three destinations in the world to receive regular visits from the AIRSORAYAMA aircraft. From October, passengers will also be able to enjoy a range of exclusive AIRSORAYAMA-themed onboard amenities inspired by Hajime Sorayama’s futuristic aesthetic.

“Prague represents far more than STARLUX’s first destination in Europe—it is a significant milestone in our long-term global network strategy,” said Glenn Chai, CEO of STARLUX Airlines. “As semiconductor supply chains continue to expand across Central Europe, particularly in areas surrounding Prague, the launch of this nonstop service will better support growing business demand while providing leisure travelers a more convenient and comfortable travel option.”

Etihad has announced a new seasonal service between Abu Dhabi and Gothenburg, starting 17th December 2026 and operating 4 times a week until 21st March 2027.

Follow Aeronews on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and TikTok

The new service will create Gothenburg’s first direct air link to the Middle East and Asia, connecting Sweden’s west coast directly with Abu Dhabi and providing some of the fastest one-stop journeys to sought-after destinations across India and Asia through Etihad’s hub.

Abu Dhabi holds an extraordinary variety of experiences within easy reach. Visitors can kayak through the mangroves at Jubail, explore the museums of the Saadiyat Cultural District and the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, relax on the beaches of the Arabian Gulf, or experience the attractions of Yas Island. Etihad’s complimentary Abu Dhabi Stopover programme allows eligible guests connecting through the city to add a hotel stay of up to two nights, turning their connection into a chance to experience the capital. Dubai is also just 45 minutes from Abu Dhabi, putting both cities within easy reach.

For travellers from Gothenburg, the evening arrival in Abu Dhabi also opens Etihad’s onward network across Asia. Onward services include Bangkok, Phuket, Krabi, Singapore, Hanoi, Bali, Shanghai, Taipei, Bengaluru, and Colombo.

Gothenburg is the 15th new destination Etihad has launched in 2026, and the route will be operated with Airbus A321LR. It offers two First Class Suites, 14 Business Class seats and 144 seats in Economy. The First and Business cabins feature fully flat beds with direct aisle access, while Economy features ergonomic seating with 13.3-inch 4K touchscreen displays with hundreds of hours of films, television and music. High-speed Wi-Fi is available across all cabins.
