In total, Iberia will offer 37,000 seats between Madrid and Toronto during the upcoming summer season. This launch is part of Flight Plan 2030, Iberia’s strategic roadmap for the coming years, which includes a €6 billion investment in fleet renewal and expansion—growing from the current 48 long-haul aircraft to 70—digitalization of services, enhanced customer experience, and the opening of new destinations.

The new Toronto route will be operated by the Airbus A321XLR, the most modern aircraft in Iberia’s fleet for transatlantic flights. Iberia was the launch airline for this model, which has become one of the most efficient on the market, delivering up to 40% fuel savings compared to wide-body aircraft. This capability enables transatlantic routes with a single-aisle aircraft while maintaining the high comfort standards of Iberia’s long-haul fleet.

The A321XLR features the new Airspace cabin, offering larger overhead compartments, LED lighting, and a greater sense of space, enhancing the onboard experience. It has two classes—Business and Economy—with a total of 182 seats.

Last Friday marked one year since Iberia became the first airline in the world to operate the Airbus A321XLR, an aircraft that has transformed transatlantic connectivity with greater efficiency and flexibility. On November 14th 2024, this model completed its first long-haul flight to Boston, ushering in a new era of transoceanic connectivity.
